Claire Donaghy Biography
I am originally from Brisbane, moved to Sydney for 10 years and now reside permanently in Bowral.
I am married with two children and five delightful grandchildren.
From a very early age I started drawing and painting whenever I got a chance. The first time I was allowed to paint in front of an easel in grade 1 was a magic moment for me.
After five years of art and art history at high school where I gained the equivalent of a high distinction, I majored in Art at Teachers College with a Distinction. I pursued a career in education and then rediscovered my love of painting through a short university course at the University of Southern Queensland many years later. This was a life changing experience for me.
I painted continuously for the next ten years and continued to study art at the Brisbane institute of Art and enrolled in further Summer Schools in Toowoomba. I became part of a painting group called “Ten plus One” who rented a studio at the BIA and we held regular group exhibitions, where I sold many of my pieces.
I was selected to exhibit at the Act For Kids prestigious exhibitions held annually in Brisbane and also exhibited and sold my work at The Brookfield Show and the Brisbane Exhibition. Since moving to Sydney I have exhibited and sold at The Balmain Arts and Crafts Show and the Royal Easter Show.
I have had 4 Solo exhibitions at regional state owned galleries and private galleries. My last solo exhibition was held in Marrickville Sydney.
I was asked a couple of years ago to be the Artist in Residence at the Bribie Island gallery, but I was travelling overseas so was unable to take up the offer.
I have exhibited with a couple of friends in Balmain at Art on Darling and the Watchhouse.
In 2023 I had a duo exhibition at Bowral art gallery which was very successful.
Since then I have exhibited at Little House gallery Goulburn, The Watch House Balmain, The Firestation Gallery Kiama and the lastest exhibition was this year at Bowral Art gallery again. I completed about 20 paintings for that exhibition so the surplus ones now hang in my garage waiting for the next exhibition. I am now involved in the Pop Up gallery in Springetts Arcade
Note: Not all sold paintings are featured here as photos have been lost with moving. Sold paintings only go back to some from 2014, but I have been painting and selling since 2006 except for a break of 3 years (2014 -2017)
